While Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers has a full service jewelry repair facility. We know sometimes you don’t want to make a trip out to the local jewelers to fix a necklace or clean a ring. We all busy and sometimes things fall to the wayside without intention. One of those things can easily be keeping up with cleaning and maintaining our jewelry. How many times have we reached for something excited to wear it only see that it’s dirty or broken? This is can be irritating after a while and it keeps us from wearing some of our favorite pieces.
If you are a do it yourself person, there are varying types of jewelry cleaners you can choose from.
DIY Jewelry Repair
- Ultrasonic machines are small and use both chemicals and ultrasound waves to clean your jewels for you. They often have a timer and do all the work for you.
- Don’t mind a little work? Keep a jar of jewelry cleaner handy. You can lightly clean your pieces with an old soft toothbrush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
- There are also home remedies to clean your favorite pieces. We recommend exercising caution as some of them can do damage and may not be worth the risk.
To avoid risking any damage to special or high valued pieces, take them in to a jeweler you know and trust to have it professionally cleaned. They will also check make sure that the settings are not loose and they can make any needed repairs.
When you have a piece that needs some TLC, place it in a small bowl on your dresser to remind you to take it in for repair or cleaning. If it ends up back in the jewelry box, you’re likely to forget about it again until the next time you want to wear it.
